“This was using a traditional dance form in a new and thought-provoking way, and we are immensely fortunate to be able to see such experimental work (...) Luz and Mannion are hugely accomplished dancers pushing at the boundaries.”
Maggie Smith, Dancin’ Oxford
Re Red reveals an upside down fairy tale world where sensitive witches and misplaced princesses roam, trapped by the roles & expectations society encourages them to assume. In this collaboration with sound designer José Tomé, Luz & Mannion Dance’s unique and personal movement language draws on contemporary flamenco and dance theatre to reflect on the themes of consent, identity and personal liberty prevalent in these iconic tales.
Re Red is a multidisciplinary dance work which exists in multiple formats including a full- length work for theatre spaces, site-specific pieces & character explorations for library and outdoor spaces and a short dance film. It has been developed with the support of Centro Coreográfico María Pagés, Conservatorio Profesional de Danza Antonio Ruiz Soler, Déda Dance, Battersea Spanish, London Bubble Theatre Company, Kensington & Chelsea and Westminster Libraries, North Wall Theatre & St Margaret’s House.
